Frequently Asked Questions
-How many adults are present in the house?
I am the only one caring for the children.
Two adults live here, me and my husband.
We both have clear criminal record checks.
The children may rarely see my husband around as he works from his own office.
Occasionally, some friends and family come visit and stay with us.
The grandparents come at least twice a year, they love children too and my mom is a preschool teacher herself.
-How many children live in the house?
I have 3 children, the older 2 are 14yo and 10yo and the youngest is 3yo.
-How many children attend the program?
Morning program has 5 spots.
Afternoon program has 5 spots.
-Do you offer full meals?
No, only snacks.
If your kids are in the morning program, you will have to send a packed lunch just as if your children were attending school full day.
If your kids are in the afternoon program, I do offer a snack of fruits (organic where possible), bread (usually home made bread with butter), water and tea. We eat snack first thing when we arrive from school, the table is prepared and set before I go pick up the kids, awaiting for us to arrive. We light a beeswax candle, sing a blessing song, and eat together.
-Is Casa Muaná pet friendly?
Yes, we have a sweet natured loving dog named Cashew.
-Do you accept subsidy?
No, Casa Muaná is a private OSC.
-Do you offer care for PD days and breaks?
Depending on my availability, PD care can be scheduled on a different package.
I do not offer full day care on longer breaks, unless there is a Camp Scheduled.
I follow the school's calendar, and I am open when the school is open.
-Why do I have to pay full price on a month that has a week break?
You don't.
PD and breaks were not calculated into the fees, as most families who inquired did not need full PD and break care, and my own family enjoys this time to be just ourselves in the home.
Prices were calculated based on how many days/hours of care per year, added to a full yearly amount and divided by 10 (for the 10 school year months).
That way prices don't keep changing depending on that month's amount of school days, it's easier to keep track and fair for everyone.
-Is the program faith based?
No, but as this is our family home and we are Christians, there are Christian aspects in our way of living.
Some meal blessings may mention God, and songs/stories around Easter and Christmas will mention Jesus.
We also do celebrate the traditional Waldorf feasts like Michaelmas and Martinmas, and those are stories that mention God.
-How are the children transported to and from School?
We will walk and we will bike.
It's a 20 min walk or a 5min bike ride from our home to school.
Casa Muaná has a cargo bike (Bunch Preschool Bike) that safely transports up to 6 children.
The bike has an all-weather canopy to keep the children warm in chilly days. It's the highlight of our commute, the kids really love it!
