Welcome to Casa Muaná,
Curious about our name?
It is pronounced "moo-ah-NAH", and it means "friend, in union" in Tupi-Guarani, one of the indigenous languages from Brazil, my birth country.
This word is very dear to me, as it was also the name of the street where I was born and spent my first years of life. It holds so many happy memories!
"Casa" means home in Portuguese, my first language.
So "Casa Muaná" is a "home of friends in union".
Ran from my family home, Casa Muaná is a Waldorf inspired out of school care, offering drop off and pick up from WISE Waldorf Independent School of Edmonton, where my own children attend.
I offer a family feel home rhythm, inspired by waldorf values for childhood, just like I do with my own children.
I value free play and time spent outside, and think these are essential for a healthy development. Our program is child led, and I try to let the kids feel like if they were home. I weave our rhythm naturally into the children's movements. Our day usually includes free play time, circle time, story time and craft time. How much of each we have depends on what is engaging the children and what I feel they need on that day.

About me, "Ms Thalita"
I am originally from Brazil and moved to Canada with my family in October 2017. We lived in Vancouver BC for 5y before moving to Edmonton in the summer of 2022.
I attended the UFRJ University in Rio pursuing a major in fine arts, but my goal was to build a career an illustrator. I have since worked from home illustrating children's books, designing backgrounds and characters for animation, creating logos for small companies and customs portraits by hire. I still work as a children's book illustrator and you can see more of my work and my books here: www.thalitadol.com I grew up helping my grandmother at her work, she was the director of a full day school for children facing poverty in Rio, Brazil. I think that was where my passion for teaching was born. I also taught Sunday School throughout my teenage years and most of my adult life. After having my first child I fell in love with pregnancy and birth, so got my certification to work as a Doula, a work I did pro-bono in Brazil to help women pursuing a respectful birth but unable to pay for help. I fell in love with Waldorf Education before my first born came along and since then started incorporating various aspects of the Waldorf Philosophy into our home. We homeschooled for a few years on and off, and finally moved to Edmonton with the intention to have our children attend the WISE and experience a full Waldorf community, which led me to think it was the perfect setting for me to finally pursue the dream of having a home-based children's program. I love children, animals, plants and everything in this Earth that lives and grows! |
